Exploration Days Event – Day 4 -Betty’s Island to South Carthage

During Exploration Days, July 19th – August 17th, we are excited to offer several unique trips that allow guests to explore different sections of the Caney Fork River. These unique trips are offered for a limited time only and are not offered at any other time during the year.
Come for each event and see the entire Caney Fork River! During each week through Exploration Days, we will be offering a different segment of the river which will take guests from Center Hill Dam all the way to the Mysterious Lighthouse in Carthage.
Our second set of Exploration Days, scheduled July 26th and 27th and August 9th and 10th, will allow our guests to explore some of the more interesting points of interest on the Caney Fork River! This 11 mile trip will start at 10:00, leaving from Betty’s Island and continuing past the Old Historic Stonewall Bridge and end in South Carthage.
Points of Interest along this unique trip:
- 1800’s Train Bridge filmed in the movie The Green Mile
- Bald Eagles at Goat Mountain
- Yuchi Caverns – Used by Native Americans and Civil War Soldiers
- Seabowisha Valley – Location of the old Plantation and River Hotel
- Stonewalls Historic Bridge
On this trip guests will paddle under the old 1800’s train bridge that was filmed in the movie the Green Mile with Tom Hanks. From there guests will continue downstream where they may see Bald Eagles nesting near Goat Mountain! Yuchi Caverns as well as the Lost Mines can be seen from the river along this excursion.
Traveling further downstream from Betty’s Island guests can see the location of the old Seabowisha Plantation and River Hotel in Castaway Cove.
The trip continues past the Historic Stonewall Toll Bridge built in 1901, famous for its unique 90 degree turn and ends in South Carthage.

- All property along the Caney Fork River is privately owned. Points of interest should only be viewed from your canoe or kayak as you paddle down the river.
