Fly Fishing Tips From Our Guide

  • Know the river! The Caney Fork River is a hydroelectric dam-generated river. This means that the water flow changes daily/hourly and sometimes without notice depending on TVA’s generation schedule. Always check the generation schedule before getting on the river!
  • The Caney Fork has Special Trout Regulations specifying the size and total number of trout that may be harvested daily while fly fishing on the Caney. It is subject to change and should be verified before your fishing trip.
  • Make sure you have your Tennessee Fishing License as well as trout stamps/permit. Fishing License can be purchased online and a digital copy will be emailed to the email address used to set up the account.
  • Have the proper gear including Fly Rod, Fly Reel, and Fly Line. If you are wade fishing, you will also need quality waders. We have several blog posts written by Fly Fishing Guide Andy Mahurin that will help prepare you for your day on the river.
  • Leave it cleaner than you found it. You will find that the Caney Fork River is pristine! The clear water and beautiful shoreline maintains that beauty because people who love the outdoors are good stewards.
