Happy Hollow Float Trips

Our shortest canoe / kayak trip is a 6-mile float that takes anywhere between 1.5-3 hours depending on the water flow (check water flow/dam generation information here) and how quickly or leisurely you paddle. This trip will typically launch just below Center Hill Dam and the take out point will be Happy Hollow Boat Ramp. Keep in mind that sometimes the launch points vary so if you want to be certain your trip will be leaving from the Center Hill Dam / Buffalo Valley launch area, please feel free to give us a call.

The scenic paddle to Happy Hollow Boat Ramp is a great option for those with limited time, small children, or elderly paddlers and it’s a great way to spend a couple of hours in nature. The Caney Fork River offers an assortment of wildlife along the way including Blue Herron, Bald Eagles, a variety of butterflies and dragonflies, river otters, and many types of fish. On this short paddle, you will most certainly encounter several rainbow trout and brown trout swimming about below your canoe / kayak. The Caney Fork is a well known trout stocked river and fishing enthusiasts from all over the US considers it a pristine trout river. Be sure to have your fishing license and trout stamps ready!

If you are a nature or photography enthusiast, you will appreciate the impressive and varied views along the way. From towering rock bluffs and pristine green riverbanks to greetings by local cows and horses wading in from local pastures to the shallow river edge to cool off in the summer heat, the Caney Fork is one of the prettiest rivers in Tennessee. With that being said, we would definitely recommend our longer excursion for those looking for the best nature has to offer including the old 1800’s train bridge that can only be seen on the longer trip. Keep in mind, the longer trip only takes about an additional hour to float than the short trip based on your paddling and water flow, but you will get to see a lot more!

Whether you’re looking for an easy paddle or a chance to hook the big one, this is the easiest way to immerse yourself in this amazing natural habitat and soak up a small dose of the rustic river known as the Caney Fork. Come on out and get your dose of nature today!

Make sure to have some sunscreen, a hat for shade, some snacks for energy, and at least one bottle of water per paddler. Most people will not get wet on this trip but comfy clothes are recommended. While swimming is an option, the water is 55 degrees year round! When the water is low, there are plenty of picnic areas. However, if the water is higher there may not be very many places to stop. Don’t forget, the shoreline is all private land so please clean up after yourself. Thank you!
